If you are not into anal, are you still gay?
One of the perennial questions that seems to float around gaydom is this: Can you be gay and not into anal play? Specifically, we’re talking about men who are attracted to other men but are grossed out by any type of butt play.In other words, no:
- Bottoming
- Topping
- Tire changes that involve a rim job (read between lines)
In a recent video that was cut by Zachary Zane (a blogger for Gay Pop Buzz), he explores the question of men who identify as gay but aren’t into any type of anal. We’ve included the vid below for you to check out.
What does it mean to be gay?
There are larger questions to explore on this front. For example, what does it mean to be gay? And to extend the dialogue: is it a requirement that a guy be top, bottom or vers in order to be a card carrying homo? Finally, does engaging in a specific sexual act make a person “gay”? If so, what is it?
All interesting questions on the psychological front – at least existentially.
Gay Labels
There is an argument to be had about the use of labels. On the one hand, they tend to segment people into categories and not always in a good way.On the other hand, labels often help people to belong to a group or tribe. For example, the collective LGBTQ community probably wouldn’t have been able to make so many advances in recent years had it not been for organizing under one common umbrella.
But within gay sub-culture, there still exists debate about what exactly “gay” means, with some folks using sexual behavior a strong characteristic.
But is that really fair? For example, if a man who generally identifies as “straight” lets someone give him a “bro-job”, does that mean he’s really bi?
