How to Use a Butt Plug: The Complete Anal Plug Guide

If you are looking to try anal but aren’t sure where to start then butt plugs are a great option.  But how to use a butt plug?

Butt plugs are ideal for first timers or people looking to move into bigger more adventurous sizes. They allow you to practice on your own, and move at a comfortable pace.

This makes butt plugs a great tool for people who want to try anal fun but are a bit tight down there, and need a little practice to stretch out.  Well, let’s get started.

What is a Butt Plug?

Butt plugs are typically used as a beginner friendly anal toy to help ease your way into anal play.

Most often, butt plugs are used for training and stretching out your anal sphincter muscle.  This allows you to get used to the new feeling or new sizes.

Butt plugs can be used for short sessions, or even be left in for longer periods (of an hour or two).  This is to help train your anal muscles to loosen up.

Butt plugs also come in a variety of materials, including metal, PVC, Glass and Silicone each providing a different feel and flexibility.

For most people starting out learning how to use a butt plug, I recommend using flexible materials like PVC or Silicone.  This is because of their bendability, making them more comfortable to use.

These anal plugs are also commonly sold in sets, or anal trainer kits.  These allow you to choose a manageable starting size and work your way up.

For anyone who is experimenting with anal for the first time, but plugs are a fantastic place to start.

Learning how to butt plug is pretty straight forward. But, before we get down and dirty you want to be sure to get prepped and ready!

How to Use a Butt Plug

Purchase a medical grade butt plug.

When choosing the right butt plug, you want to make sure it is made from body-safe materials.

In addition, you will also want to choose a butt plug that is the right size and comfortable to use.

For this guide we will be using the 4-size silicone beginner set because of its certified boy safe materials, and tapered sizes that let you practice at your own pace.

You can find links to all of the mentioned supplies at the end of this guide.

Get clean Use the Bathroom and Flush with an Anal Enema.

To start, simply use the bathroom naturally and clean out your pipes. Afterward, take a shower and clean the entrance and about an inch inside with a finger.

To make this easier, you can push outwards slowly (like you are going to the bathroom) and wash up the skin inside.

Don’t use too much soap because it can cause irritation, but make sure you clean up well first.

If you are still worried about hygiene you can always use an enema to really flush things out (more details at the end of this guide).

Choose an Anal Lubricant

When learning how to use a butt plug, or delving into anything anal, using a good anal lube is a must!

This is because your anal tissue is extra sensitive, and although this means it can make anal feel amazing. It also means that you can hurt yourself if you aren’t extra careful starting out.

Added to the fact that your body does not have a natural anal lubricant. So, you must, must, must use a lube if you are planning to use that anal plug!

As far as lubes that play well with toys, I recommend using a water based lube because they won’t degrade the toy’s material and are the easiest to clean up.

Apply Lube to butt plug, and inject some lube inside.

The single biggest tip I have for how to use a butt plug for the first time is use lots and lots of lube!

You want your toy to go in as smooth as possible, and when it’s time for the little guy to come out, you also want it to slide out without a hitch.

Position the tip of your butt plug at the entrance of your bum.
You want to use one finger to insert slowly into your bum, and then position the tip of your plug on the entrance.

You can do this by laying on your back, or sitting down on-top of it directly.

Push out gently with your anal muscles.

The best way to describe this would be like you are gonna poop. This will help you to expand and relax your muscles and allow the toy to move in easily.

Another tip I have is to apply pressure with a finger to the area under your butthole and between your legs.

This is what is sometimes called the taint or grundle. As you push on the point you will notice your anal muscles start to ease up.

Insert the plug slowly.

Remember to take your time and don’t be afraid to use more lube if you need it.

Butt plugs are tapered so that as you move in, the wider it becomes and therefore the more challenging it can be (but who doesn’t like a good challenge ;-).

Your goal for each plug and to insert it all the way past the thickest point, after which it will pop into place (and this feeling is very satisfying once you get to this point).

You may get it on your first try, or you might have to take a few tries, but with patience and practice it should slide into place!
You may not be able to get the whole plug in the first time and that’s OK!

Think of this as a training session where every time you are are teaching yourself how to use a butt plug. Each time you are able to go just a little bit bigger, and eventually graduate up to the next size.

8. Keep the plug in for a few minutes

you can leave the butt plug in place for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more.  The longer you leave it in place, the better you anal muscles will adjust and relax.

9. Work your way up to larger sizes

The great part of having a butt plug set is that it will let you move up to a larger, more realistic size as you get comfortable.  For some this progression can be done in the same day, others may want to s[ace it out over a number of days and sessions.  But with practice you should be able to use the larger sizes with no problem.

Before you know, that biggest plug in your anal trainer kit will pop in like a breeze.

10. Clean your anal plug after use

After every session, you want to make sure to wash your toy thoroughly with soap and hot water.

Cleaning your toy regularly is a must and will help to fight off any nasty smells, or bacteria build up which can be harmful to your health.

In order to extend the life of your toy, especially if you opt for a more expensive set, simply using a toy cleaner will take care of most of these issues.

In terms of the extra safety and longevity that you will get from your butt plugs, it is money well spent.

When choosing the right butt plug, you want to consider size. By far the most popular anal trainer kit on the site is 4 Set Kit because it gives you 4 separate sizes specifically made for beginners.

At under one inch for the smallest and paces you nicely up to the largest size at over 2 inches.

Additionally, these plugs are made form high-quality, medical grade silicone meaning they are safe, long-lasting, and comfortable to use.
