SPEED

Also known as
  • amphetamine
  • whizz
  • uppers
  • sulphate
It is not to be confused with the American use of ‘speed’, as in the US this often means crystal meth.

What is speed?

Speed is a stimulant. It is normally a white-ish powder usually cut with things like talc or caffeine.

It’s mostly sniffed through a straw or rolled up bank note; put on the tongue; rubbed into the gums; wrapped in cigarette paper then swallowed (called a speed bomb); or mixed in a drink. Swallowing means the effects take longer to start but last longer, and it doesn’t damage the nose like sniffing can. Sometimes it’s smoked from a pipe or foil, or mixed with water then injected.

Speed makes the brain release feel-good chemicals (dopamine and serotonin) and the stress hormone norepinephrine.

What’s the attraction?

Speed can make you alert, talkative and confident, lower inhibitions, raise your mood and give increased energy. It allows you to go without sleep or food (leading to weight loss) or do repetitive tasks for a long time.

Effects can last three to six hours.

Speed and sex

Speed can make the dick feel less sensitive and make it harder to come. This can lead to longer fucking sessions that make the dick and arse sore or bleed. This inflamed or broken skin increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections (HIV, hepatitis C and other STIs) passing from one man to another.

Although speed is well-known for stopping men getting erections, Viagra and speed taken together put real stress on the heart.
